REaL Cyber Risk Camp 2026: Participant Testimonials and Impact

Following the successful conclusion of the REaL Cyber Risk Camp held in February–March 2026, we are proud to share the positive feedback from students and families who took part in this exciting camp.

Designed for high school students, the camp introduced key concepts in cybersecurity through interactive learning. Participants explored real-world topics such as identifying scam emails, understanding cyber threats, and learning how to protect themselves online.

Students consistently highlighted how insightful and practical the experience was, with many noting that the camp helped them better understand and mitigate cyber risks in their daily lives.

The interactive format stood out as a key strength. Through game-based learning and collaborative activities, students remained actively engaged throughout the program. Many shared that their favourite moments included participating in simulations and working with peers in breakout sessions.

Parents also expressed strong appreciation for the program’s impact.

Several noted their children’s growing interest and enthusiasm in risk-related topics. In addition to the camp experience, families shared meaningful feedback about the REaL STEM Scholarship initiative. For many, this support has helped students from equity-seeking and low-income backgrounds access opportunities that bring them closer to their academic and career goals.

One parent emphasizes how empowering the scholarship is for their child’s education. Others expressed gratitude for the opportunity, which supports their children in pursuing future studies in STEM fields.

The REaL Program continues to demonstrate the importance of accessible education in today’s rapidly evolving digital world. By combining practical knowledge with interactive delivery, the program equips students with skills that are both relevant and impactful.

As part of our ongoing commitment to accessibility and inclusion, we are continuing to offer STEM Scholarships for equity-seeking students. We encourage interested students and families to reach out (vpet@therisc.ca) to learn more about eligibility.

We thank all participants, parents, and partners for contributing to the success of this camp and look forward to welcoming the next cohort of REaL learners.
