Diploma in Risk and
Insurance Management

The one-year Diploma in Risk and Insurance Management (DRIM) provides students with a comprehensive education in the principles and practice of modern Risk Management & Insurance (RMI) and related areas within Financial Services. The program develops analytical, professional, and ethical competencies, ensuring that graduates are work-ready and equipped to apply their learning to strengthen organizational resilience and contribute to the public good.

Risk Leaders Digital Challenge

As a component of DRIM, the RiLeD Challenge is an innovative, web-based educational tool that engages students in teams, each representing an insurance company. Through simulated market dynamics, students practice making strategic decisions in distribution, underwriting, pricing, claims, and investments, while also responding to market changes driven by the decisions of other teams, as well as to random catastrophe events. They explore the use of reinsurance and consider ESG factors, seeing how these choices influence their company’s outcomes. The RiLeD Challenge prepares students to better understand and navigate real-world challenges.

Risk Education and Literacy

The REaL Program equips Canadian high-school students — particularly Black youth — with essential risk literacy and decision-making skills. Through interactive camps grounded in mathematics, science, and contemporary issues like cyber and climate risks, AI and mental health risks, as well as social risks, students gain practical tools to navigate uncertainty. Using innovative approaches such as Virtual Reality, the program fosters resilience, scientific engagement, and equitable access to education.

Valentina R. - HAIVE Intern

Intern, Risk Management, CIBC

HAIVE program was a great experience! It introduced me to the emerging field of ESG risk management and helped me form a deeper appreciation for the importance of environmental, social, and governance factors in business decisions. This led me to search for related opportunities and ultimately secure an internship with the CIBC Bank in Toronto, Canada.

Tuân Lê - HAIVE Intern

Senior Technical Student, Toronto Hydro

My internship at RISC really kicked off my career journey, teaching me crucial risk analysis skills. Diving into the world of Private Equity at Bay Street Capital Investments, I got hands-on with financial modeling, especially in the SaaS sector. All these experiences have been invaluable at Toronto Hydro, where I now help steer strategic projects and regulatory strategies.

Acquisition, Partnerships & Expansion Intern, Scotiabank

I loved working on RISC’s HAIIvVE project, largely because I was fortunate to have an amazing team and mentors. Everyone was incredibly supportive and receptive. My team and I were always aligned on our approach, and if extra effort was needed, we discussed it openly. Overall, my HAIIvVE experience significantly boosted my work ethic as I learned new skills.

REaL Camps

I would recommend this camp to my friends because it was pretty fun, and we learned stuff at the same time.

REaL Camp Instructor

The combination of group activities, case studies, and game play made the camp a more engaging experience where the students could form bonds with each other even during a short, two-day, camp. The games also vividly demonstrated cognitive biases and intuition errors.
